Drexel University Visit

Drexel University stands out not just for its academic excellence, but also for its unique traditions, innovative facilities, and rich history. Its mascot, Mario the Magnificent, is a dragon — a rarity among universities — named after a devoted alumnus. Another highlight is the Papadakis Integrated Sciences Building, which opened in 2011. It houses a five-story living biowall, the first of its kind at any U.S. university. The wall acts as a natural air filter, using plants and microbes to clean the air and water, blending science with sustainability in a truly innovative way.

The university is also home to the Westphal College of Media Arts & Design, where creativity thrives. Westphal houses the award-winning independent record label, Mad Dragon Records, and its Audio Archives preserve over 6,200 master tapes from the legendary Sigma Sound Studios. Drexel’s legacy of innovation extends further back to its College of Home Economics, once the largest in any private college in America, which offered unique programs such as costume design. These initiatives highlight Drexel’s forward-thinking approach to education and its commitment to fostering creativity across disciplines.
